Protecting Your Hearing

Being able to hear is an important part of an active and enjoyable life. Normal hearing allows us to connect with the world around us, to have conversations with friends, enjoy TV and music, and hear warning signals such as fire alarms or approaching traffic. Although not the only cause, prolonged exposure to loud sounds can lead to hearing loss. For this reason, protecting your healthy hearing is of upmost importance!

The following table gives examples of how loud different sounds are.

Loud levels of noise can cause temporary or permanent damage to hearing. It is therefore important to wear ear protection when exposed to loud sounds, especially over a longer period of time.

The world is a louder place than we may think or know.

When our ears are exposed to noise, it is important that they are protected. Using hearing protection is crucial for preventing hearing loss, and also protecting us from noise that can lead to other health issues, such as stress and poor concentration and more serious issues such as cardiovascular disease and tinnitus.

Noise-related hearing loss is one of the most common occupational hazards.

Some of these loud environmental noises, such as traffic and city noise can be hard to avoid, but other noises we can actively protect ourselves.
